I recently bought a 1.25 Kia Rio 2 2011 as my first car as it was surprisingly accommodating of a tall guy like myself.

I bought it used from the dealership but my parents and I agree the clutch is a real pain to use. In my instructors car, I was used to having the clutch bite pretty close to the floor, which boded well with my long legs, but in the Kia, the clutch doesn't begin to engage until about half-way in its travel, which makes for some entertaining viewing for the passenger as my knee shoots into the air on each gear change.

When it does bite, there's very little travel before complete coupling, at least a lot less than I'd like.

Is this normal, or can it be changed/need to be looked at.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you may well need a new clutch but first check there is a good fluid level in the fluid reservoir, you will need to remove the lid to check properly as half of it is for clutch & half for brakes so you need to make sure both sides have a good level.

A friend had a similar problem and it was the clutch slave cylinder...
