Diesel Leaking Injector Seals?

Hi, please see images below.

Any idea what is leaking to cause this mess? obviously been leaking for a while, could it be the copper washers which sit on the bottom of the injectors?

Do the injectors have another seal further up them where they meet the rocker cover too? could it be these?

Really, It just looks like any typical old dirty engine

Is there an actual problem ?

Thanks for the reply, I take it you don't think this is anything leaking then? if not then where is it coming from?

Wipe clean the area, will help locate any leaks.

With the engine running is there a bubbling & appearance of liquid around the injector body?

Is every other area of the vehicle spotlessly clean ? No.

By all means give it a good clean and see if anything new appears in a short space of time.

Looks like any old stty dismal engine. I'd wipe it clean and using a forefinger feel for moistness once a week.

ok I'll give it a clean, this is quite nasty stuff though, think ill need some brake cleaner on it and give it a good scrub or even a wire brush taking care not to go near the injectors.

Thinners & a toothbrush will shift it without scratching it all to bits using a wire brush although it might take a little longer.

Once you've cleaned the area run the engine with the bonnet up.
You're looking for liquid bubbling up round the body of the injector often accompanied by a smell of diesel & on a really bad one a chuffing sound.

Power wash will clean it.

Chuffing injector caused by worn injector seals if its solid its carbon build up from it. A new washer isn't a lot but the injector may be seized in. If your not hearing it or smelling anything and it doesn't look that bad I would leave it until it gets worse. Just google Mercedes black death too see how bad they go.
