Not an answer but, Shouldn’t it have reverted back to auto mode too rather than keep revving also? Mine albeit not a 135 but a diesel if it’s in manual mode and I don’t manually change after a certain point will change itself still.

from my point of view seems odd the car didn’t hit the limiter which the software should of done :?
Seems to me it very likely did hit the limiter, hence the loss of power. Remember that the rev counter may not be accurate and may also lag behind the actual rpm.

That doesn't rule out the possibility of damage, though. Since you have an audible tap, it would be worth somebody listening round the engine with a mechanic's stethoscope to see if the origin can be located.

Hello all,
I’m stuck so need some guidance on this hard subject,
I own a 2013 m135i 50k Miles with full bmw service history auto,
I was traveling to the shops few days ago and decided to put the car in sport plus,
Being a donut forgot I put the car into manual mode,
Put my foot down and forgot to change which I know a lot of people do,
However rather than hit the limiter the car reved past the limiter and lost power,
After I put the brakes on lightly and came to a halt the car while running ruff done a full needle sweep, I then turned the car off then on again and seemed fine,
While on the way home the car the car was making a almost tapping noise seemed from gearbox over 2k revs, I’ve had the car sitting since however I started it up yesterday to get some shopping ran fine (in comfort mode keeping below 2.5k revs) when got home gave the car a few revs stationary and seemed engine was making a tapping noise around 3k, if I held the revs at 3 it would be consistent frown
Can someone help me not sure on what to do, from my point of view seems odd the car didn’t hit the limiter which the software should of done :?
Obviously haven't heard the engine or noises but it's possible you have damaged a rod bearing, not unheard of when doing lots of doughnuts etc.
Sorry to say. I have done a couple of doughnuts in my car and haven't had an issue, but I am aware of the issue and run very high quality ester oil to a capacity of approx 7.5L instead of 6.5 to help keep the pickup pipe submerged in oil.

So you run it with 1L too much oil... is that a thing?
