DPF removed by previous owner - what to do?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm buying my first van - 2011 VW Crafter, 112,000 miles. £2,500. Due for a new cam belt and will soon need to replace ball joints and break discs hence low price. It's a private sale, friend of a friend. I'm also budgeting to replace the turbo which could be on the horizon, though sounds fine at the moment.
What I'm most concerned about is that the current owner says the DPF light hasn't come on in the 4 years he's owned it. He hasn't done anything to it, but doesn't know if it's been removed previously. I'm guessing it must have been removed by the previous owner, though it has passed it's recent MOTs. Is there a way of telling if the DPF has been tampered with, just by looking at it?
If it fails the next MOT due a DPF that's been tampered with, what sort of price would I be looking at to get a new one fitted?
Will fitting a new DPF cause lots of headaches?
I'm buying it to convert to a camper, so only to be driven on big long journeys.
Any advice or thoughts hugely appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Kate
