Can clutches repair themselves?
Discussion
I did a couple of "enhancements to the power" to my manual car and let my mate have a go at it, he did a couple of hard starts and then when going at say 60 or 70 the clutch started slipping a bit, but only at those speeds, at 30 or 40 it was fine and would deliver all the power without slipping at all.
I thought the clutch just might have overheated a bit and it would be fine but the next day it was just the same. you could set of normally, even put your foot to the floor and there wouldn't be any slip at all but get on a motorway at 70+ and then put your foot down and it would slip (revs and engine note increase quickly and then the car catches up).
This lasted for a few days but now it seems back to normal, no slip at all even at motorway+ speeds, so what caused the slipping? is it possible it just got glazed up and has now bedded itself back in, I've no idea if the car has ever had a clutch in the past but its currently got 130K on the clock. I can and have replaced clutches/dual mass flywheels in the past but I've got a spare gearbox for my car in my shed and its the heaviest thing I've ever tried to move, 2 of us can just about pick it up and I don't fancy struggling with it on my back under the car.
Car is an Audi A4 B8.5 2.0TDI Quattro.
