Howdy ho people.
Been having whining noises in my gearbox yet again. 3rd time in 5 years now, only got repaired last October and done an trans oil change at the end of April this year and now it's noisey again. Just dropped the oil to check and its this colour,
is this normal after 6 weeks? I've added some Moly slip with the oil to see if this helps with the noise so I can save some tuppence to buy another box. I don't want to repair this one as a trusted mechanic showed me that it was damaged previously where one of the bearing races sit. So any idea what could cause oil to turn like this after 6 weeks, I haven't ragged the car as I've been trying to nurse it as I'm due a clutch/flywheel etc change soon so was gonna save and get gearbox, clutch etc done at once. Not cheap!!
Thanks.

I cant see anything wrong with that oil that would concern me.
Bearing problems with the M32 gearbox is a well known problem. You say someone showed you damage to the gearbox already this is usually caused by leaving it whining to long before having it repaired. Any experienced person wouldnt normally repair a gearbox where the bearing housings were already damaged their scrap at that point

tell me about it. The gearboxes are a pile of s
te, it's had 2 rebuilds, and 2 gears repaired in 5 years. Soon as I've got a new box I'm gonna get the gen2 upgrade. I've changed the oil numerous times before after 6 months of use and its never been that dark, the only reason I can see why its this dark is by over heating the oil but I haven't driven the car hard for ages (trying to prolong the clutch etc as its due anytime now) plus it's only 6 weeks old so I have no idea. The damage was behind one of the bearing races. The garage who repaired it under warranty a month after buying the car chiseled them out instead of using the proper tool. So they ended up gauging out metal and snapping a bit off. The lad who repaired it late last year showed me and said the race might not seat flush. But I said go ahead with the repair as I had lived with it a few years before and took a while to whine loudly.
