Hi PHers.
This 2006 Mazda6 2.0Di has 59000 miles, and mileage history on MOT confirms that.

Symptoms
- Power delivery changes from time to time between 1 and 2k rpm. It feels quick sometimes, then later in the same gear it'll feel sluggish
- Smokes as per video. Smoke on start and under heavy throttle.
- DRINKING oil.
- Rocker cover gasket is shredded. The engine is ridiculously dirty with oil, so I am suspecting another oil leak (other than said gasket)

Video - exhaust start up: https://photos.app.goo.gl/jMr8xZwj4od4d6Bw5
Video - engine running: https://photos.app.goo.gl/hZ2ttKJ5VCM3weBK6

Suspecting turbo or piston rings. Turbo I'll fix on my drive, rings I'll run it to the next MOT and sell as spares/repairs, honestly describing what's going on.

Sunday I'll have a play with it, change the gasket, clean the engine and look for more leaks... What else you people reckon I should do?

Regards

Fix the rocker gasket! Especially if the crankcase breather is connected directly to the inlet manifold. This will affect MAF readings due to the unmetered air. Air leaks will make it smoke at revs and give poor mpg.
Have a look at Fuel Trims if you’ve access to diag kit. You’ll see there if there’s a leak.

They are notorious for injector seals, which then contaminate the crankcase and oil, which then clogs the oil strainer, when then destroys the engine due to lack of oil supply.
