Hi all,

Just replaced an old van with a newish iveco daily. Spent a week racking it out, signage etc etc and had it 3 months. Lot of work has gone into it.

Asked one of my guys to check the oil and if it needed topping up, do so about a week ago. Driving for a week ish and yesterday engine light came on.

Checked some basic stuff, namely oil etc and realised that the dip stick was registering approx 1 inch above max line. Drained the sump of approx 2.4 litres of oil into a 2.5 litre pain kettle and re filled with new oil approx 1.4 litres back up to around max fill.

Engine light of course is still on. Am going to get diagnostics tomorrow. Question is, how much damage will have driving approx 100 miles with a massively over filled engine block have done?

Had nothing but problems with old van. Can't deal with the stress of another van failing me regularly and am worrying that the idiot may have done some serious damage causing untold future hassle.

Cheers in advance for feedback.

So only a litre over ?

First world problems....no big deal.

Unless somehow it has managed to impact some of the emissions related items. But the engine mechanically...wont matter a damn.

It can be bad news if the crank is running in oil, aerated oil can ruin bearings, but I would have thought that there was more than an inch clearance. More likely to have blown some excess into the intake, so you might not have done the DPF much good.

Also, if the DPF is clogged up, then the van might be trying to regen, failed regens can lead to diesel in the oil, are you sure that it was overfilled?

That would be my concern. Overfilling by a liter wouldn't worry me, but there's clearly something causing that warning light. Maybe fault codes would give you a clue as to the real problem.

It's an Iveco, the engine warning light could be absolutely anything.

Thanks guys. Turned out it was the ECG plug or something. They switched it off and said come back if the light comes back on again..
