Hi all,
Need some advice. I have a peugeot 207 1.6 hdi. Clutch depressing caused a noise, handed it to a mechanic, got told it needed a clutch kit as suspected clutch bearing fault. Then mechanic told me it needed a bearing slider, all good.

Now he tells me it's leaking oil, said probably a seal, took it apart and says theirs a crack in gearbox and needs a new one.

Thing is, their was no oil leak from under car before he took it and I had no issues with gears, lovely and smooth.

Could this oil leak/crack be caused by clutch/bearing issue or does it sound like something more suspect like he dropped the gearbox. Didn't know if the issue could cause a heat crack or through vibration.

Sounds like he has dropped it tbh.

Have to agree there, sounds very suspect.

If it is cracked then it's not too much trouble to grab another used box, looks like they're about 100 quid or so.

That's what I thought, I don't know much, so thought worth asking if their was another plausible likely cause that I didn't think or know of. Problem is, I can't prove he dropped or cracked it either.

Where is the crack outside of the casing?
Or around the input shaft shaft area

An impact hard enough to crack the casting would probably leave a witness mark.

Since its done and can't be proved how, couldn't it just be Tig welded to stop the leak ?
Doesn't need to look pretty.
