Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 petrol. W (2000) reg. Pre 2003 facelift. 92,000 miles.

To start the car and to stop it stalling I have to press down on the accelerator and have to keep the accelerator pressed down for a few minutes, otherwise it dies.
Sometimes the car will start without pressing the accelerator but dies as soon as it starts.
After a few minutes it'll tick over on its own at around 500 to 600 revs. a few minutes after that it'll tick over at around 800 to 1100 revs.
The other problem is the engine light coming on at motorway speeds.

I'm thinking EGR related?
What says you?

I have an OBD reader but there is a problem with the OBD socket. All fuses are good and It works fine on my Clio

Sort that out first, then the other problems will probably become clear,

^^^^ Wot 'e said.

On top of that another possible reason for what you describe is an engine temperature sensor not reading right so the cold fuelling isn't correct.
