Afternoon,

i have an older Maserati twin turbo v6, with a boost gauge with no readings on it, just a green / yellow / red section. It used to go right into the yellow occasionally entering the red. The manual confirms just touching the red is ok for short periods of time.

It now just goes a little into the yellow, can i tell the difference ?? It is not a daily driver so im not sure.

One exhaust manifold was cracked and other had a gasket leak, both manifolds have been replaced, opinion given by the mechanic was that the turbos were fine.

I have checked and dont think there are any intake leaks

The boost solenoid is a plastic SEM unit as used on some Saabs and RS Escorts. It i s22 years old now so may have seen better days. 3 port with two wires

I have found a 3 port pierburg valve that uses the same 3 ports and two wires, do we see any reason as to why this wouldnt work / be worth trying ?
It is not expensive but the old stock SEM units are !!

Thanks

I'd always use a saab unit. They nailed turbo use years ago with APC that allows overboost. You could try the Pierburg item but I've never heard of a saab owner using it.

Without knowing the sizes of any orifices used in the current valve, vs anything you might try and replace it with...you will not know how much boost you could end up with.

test the valve...they're simple, they're just an open/closed valve.

Get a proper boost gauge on it to verify how much it is currently getting, vs how how much it should.
Could also check the gauge and line to the gauge itself in case there is an issue there.

And check the wastegates for operation

Thank you.

Could I be really stupid and ask how to test it ?

Thanks
