Had a weird statement from a garage, was going to book the car in for a service until the guy on the phone came out with the above statement. 'oh that is the stuff that TPS sells, nah mate we use Castrol cos it is 'better'.

I replied with how can it be better if it VW's own oil. I didn't book it in. Had my doubts anyway about the place anyway and the way the guy came across just sounded unprofessional.

Equally as good as each other, we only use Quantum which i believe at some point was made by Castrol but is now made by Fuchs.

I have 5l of quantum for topping up and I have only used a small amount so am reluctant to switch to their castrol stuff.

I know it does not matter so long as it is the same viscosity but it matters to me.

Ran both my Audis on Quantum for years, it's what they come out of the factory with after all......

Agreed, and same choice here inc some Morris products thumbup to the OP'er I'd concern myself with frequency of change than difference between these two brands TBH

As said above made by Fuchs, great quality oil.
We've used gallons of the stuff over years in our VAGs, BMWs and French breds.
No issues and is excellent value especially when buying the 20l Cubes.

Go on TPS website and stick any reg in and it'll tell you the correct oil from the Quantum range.

Use with confidence.

Maybe I'm due a whoosh parrot, but no they don't. Dealers don't even use it - Quantum is VAGs aftermarket brand.

The last couple of VWs I bought came from the factory with Castrol oil going by the stickers and my local VW dealer uses Shell Oils. My understanding is that each VAG franchise uses whose oil that gives the best deal.

In my opinion as long as the oil meets or exceeds the relevant VW Specs, brand doesn't really matter.

As said previously Quantum oil was previously Castrol and is now Fuchs.

said this before , dealers will use whatever they can get a good deal on filled up in a big tank in the workshop , people get too hung up on finding unicorn brand oil when it gets whatever slung in it at the dealer

as long as it meets the spec and grade its fine ...stick with any known brand

I’ve used it for years and had no problems.
Anything made by Fuchs is fine by me, one of the highest quality oils out there.

I'm sure you'll find some if you do a bit of Googling (try Audi and Castrol as key words).

Apart from anything else, Quantum isn't an oil, it's a brand. As others have pointed out, they used to source from Castrol, now it's Fuchs. It'll change again if someone offers them a better deal.
