AJ30 Engine in to MK3 Zodiac
Discussion
Hello all
I am renovating and modifying my MK3 Zodiac and have a Manual 3.0 S type Jaguar as a donor for the engine and maybe gearbox. Has anyone on here had any experience of fitting the AJ30 in to a classic Ford? I am 100% sure there is enough room in the engine bay but I am a little concerned about the driveline and subsequent height of the engine/gearbox. I do not want to cut the tunnel unless I absolutely have to. I know that I may need a sump from an X type to remove the massive bulge at the front but, in general it looks a good fit around the standard cross member.
Does anyone have any experience and advice? Anything would be gratefully received if it stopped me repeating others errors of the past!
Thanks
Gary

I have fitted one in my TVR which had a 2.8 Cologne originally.
The X type sump is the way to go BUT still may give you problems with steering/ engine mounts etc. The AJ30 nearside engine mount is also the oil filter mount.
It is a tall unit and you 'may' have bonnet issues.
The clutch slave is a concentric unit which may or may not be compatible with your master cylinder.
The gearbox may put the stick in the wrong position but the linkage can be cut and shut
The gearbox is also a direct top - same as your original 4 speed so will give the same speed / rpm in top.
You should look at major brake upgrades and probably an LSD.
I'm about to help someone else do this conversion to another TVR (similar to mine) and he is in the market for an engine and 'box.
