Afternoon all,

I have a 67 plate Kia Stonic 1.0L Turbo that I am having an issue with.

Recently it seems that after slowing down (for a speed bump etc.) and then wanting to accelerate out it takes a while for the accelerator to kick in, I will press the accelerator and it will take a good 2-3 seconds for it actually to kick in and the speed to increase.

Today I slowed down to around 15mph to go over a speed bump and after going past it hit the accelerator to increase my speed but nothing happened and my speed just slowly started decreasing. It felt like there was a distinct lack of power but the engine was still running. Fortunately there were no cars behind me so I managed to crawl over to the side of the road and pull up. As I pulled up to a stop the whole car started shaking/juddering whilst we were stationary and this felt like it was coming from the engine.

I took the key out of the ignition and left it for five minutes. Started the car up again and it was fine and I managed to make it home (which was only two minutes round the corner fortunately)

However I do undertake a lot of motorway miles and am really concerned about this happening on the motorway as this would have pretty severe consequences.

Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be?

Reading online it seems as though it could be a problem with the fuel filter/injector but I only had my car serviced 3 weeks ago and presumably this would have been picked up then?

Thank you for any advice you can give.

Sorry if this sounds daft but you aren’t talking about a small 1.0 engine and turbo lag are you ? Has it always been like that or is this something new that’s only just starting happening?

Is it a manual and you’re just in the wrong gear?

Are there any warning lights or messages flashing up when this happened.
Completely different car, but my dad had a similar issue on his Volvo V40 shortly after having new tyres, which turned out to be one of the wheel speed sensors (or more likely the wire to it) for the traction control being damaged by an incompetent fitter.
The car drove normally most of the time, but occasionally shuddered and would barely go at all, particularly after going along bumpy bit of road.
Turning off the ESP / traction control relieved the issue temporarily, and a new sensor permanently.

Firstly get the fault codes read.

I would assume its a drive by wire throttle, so I would look at the throttle body and throttle pedal first.

Wonder if it’s anything to do with the switch to E10 petrol?

Could fill with super unleaded to check.

Thank you for all of your responses, much appreciated.

Initially I did put it down to turbo lag but today definitely was not the turbo lag, the car was losing power and not reacting to the accelerator at all, even when I pulled it over.

I was in second gear and there was no reaction to me accelerating at all.

There are no warning lights or anything showing on the dashboard. I did have the front two tyres changed around 3 weeks ago.

Being a Kia it's still under warranty isn't it? Phone the dealer, describe the issue let them investigate.

Sounds like injectors or High Pressure Fuel Pump.

Car should be under warranty still so get the dealer to check it over.

I used to have an astra diesel that used to do exactly the same thing. Turned out to be a faulty brake pedal switch. When braking, the car takes power away from the engine. The switch was sticking and still telling the car i was braking hence no power to the engine. It was a 2 circuit switch and the brake lights were unaffected. No codes were flagged as the car was doing what its supposed to. A new switch cured it.
