I believe you can get SMF kits which are "silent" -

I've done a few SMF converstions on VAG stuff

MK1 Leon TDI PD150
MK2 Leon TDI PD170
MK2 Leon Cupra R (petrol)
MK2 Golf TDI

Always preferred the feel of the pedal etc, most have been fairly silent apart from the PD170 which ironically had a "silent" kit on it and was quite loud.

Can't really compare different makes to each other...because they're all different.

On a small horrible diesel though, I'd say it would need all the vibration damping help it could, stick with the DMF if you intend to keep it.

Not sepcific to the Corsa, but I've seen a few conversions ending up in tears down the line, so wouldn't advise.

Manufacturers fit them for a reason.

Well that is debatable.

But when the entire package is designed to have them....removing them is not a great idea.

Well clutch all changed was suprised to see a single mass flywheel which I assume is standard as it was the original vauxhall clutch unless the dual mass has been changed without changing clutch can't imagine it mind

Skoda started fitting SMF's to the Octavia when they had many DMF failures, think it was the MK1 generation.

How do they make a flywheel, which is just a solid lump of metal, "Silent" ?

This DMF or SMF topic has been done to death here and on every other car forums.
My take on it is, if it comes with a DMF keep it. All these modern engines are designed around a DMF. A DMF has springs that "Give", take that away something else will have to "Give" ? OE replacement DMF kits are very much better than they were a few years ago.

Do single solid lumps of steel generally make noise ? Or does that require more than one piece ?

The clutch plate has springs instead, I ran a "silent" kit once.

Same, the 1.9 diesel found in fiat/VX/Saab. Doesn't seem to like it and can cause engine issues.

Not just about pedal vibration, it's what it sends back into the engine
