My companies van has recently broken down due to cambelt failure.

It is currently in a Citroen /Peugeot main dealer workshop being stripped down.
I was told by the workshop manager that Peugeot Citroen should hopefully pick up the repair bill even though the van is out of Warranty (Its April 2019)
because the belt has failed prematurely ,and that the failure was almost definitely caused by failure of a non service part.

I have been told that the manufacturer needs to see the service history.
Can anyone advise me why they want this and any tips to get a payout for this repair please.

Does it have a full Citroën service history ? I would expect this to be essential if you are going to get a goodwill payment.

The want the service history to confirm: -

Who serviced the van

When was it serviced

etc..

Before making a decision on a goodwill payment they need to check it has been serviced correctly.

Its been serviced by a non Citroen van service centre.I think I am right in saying,that as long as its a VAT registered garage ,it should be fine .Fingers crossed!

I can't quite see why servicing can have an effect on a cambelt failing.Unless of course the oil had never been changed or something like that.
Timing chain is a different kettle of fish.

It is out of warranty.
They will look more favourably on making a goodwill gesture towards a customer who has servicing done by the main dealer than to a customer who takes their servicing elsewhere (is my experience with other manufacturers).

So its been taken outside the dealer network for servicing.

That may or may not keep a warranty valid depending on the standard of the work / parts used but doing it outside of warranty will be viewed as no there being no loyalty/goodwill from the customer to the manufacturer/dealer.

I would imagine the manufacturer will show a similar lack of goodwill / loyalty to the customer.

Warranty repairs and goodwill contributions are very different things.

Thats what the law says.
If it is out of warranty and never been serviced at a Citroen dealer, then Citroen UK are unlikely to look favorably on any goodwill towards this.

That doesn't apply to an out of warranty goodwill payment !

Thanks for replies guys,I guess we will see what happens in due course.

The workshop manager at the dealership was quiet confident that they would pay out.As I said before, fingers crossed.
