Have a 57 plate Honda Accord 2.0i EX manual estate. It starts shaking at speeds approaching 60mph, and smooths out before 70. It also stops if I take my foot off the accelerator, then starts again when I put my foot down. I have had the wheels balanced. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Could be a wheel out of round, or play somewhere in the suspension or steering. Being throttle sensitive would make play seem a more likely cause.

Vibes at 55-65 are more often associated with front wheel issues than rears. My first port of call would be swapping wheels from front to rear & see if that makes any difference.

Being throttle sensitive does make it sound more like a linkage though

You said that already.

Just because the wheels can be balanced doesn't mean it isn't a wheel issue.

Unless the guy doing the balancing is actually for a wheel out of true it can easily be missed.

Start by swapping wheels front to rear.

Does it happen on acceleration or is it constant even after letting foot off the accelerator?

Not an Accord, but I had Civic which would shake at around 50mph on acceleration only. It turned out to be a bad driveshaft (driver side).

Did this just start happening at random ? Or what is the history leading up to this ?

Srappy, it happens when I'm accelerating, and stops when I come off the gas. I was thinking driveshaft for this reason.
Stevie Turbo, just bought the car, didn't get over 50 on test drive due to local speed limits.
Thanks everyone, wish me luck, will update when I have news. smile

could be a 'dented' tyre, could also be a slightly out of tyre disc-brake
