Ford Focus 2006 1.6 Petrol, engine light came on diagnosed with a fault code P0153 02 Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 2 Sensor 1. Should I just start off replacing the sensor or maybe cleaning it up & has anyone experienced this fault before & what was the cause/solution?

You might want to read that again - a 1.6 focus doesn t have a bank2!

Oh really? I don’t have a clue tbh that’s just exactly what the reader says.

It's true on both counts, the code says bank 2, a second bank will only happen on a v engine, or engine with a twin exhaust system. So a 1.6 focus will only have a bank 1.

Probably take another reading.

Some 1.6 focus have a funky 4 branch manifold type thing. Is it a vvt engine?
They come 4 into 2 then into 1 after cat.

surely it would need 2 cats for a bank 2, I am just guessing though.

Depending of what engine there are 2 cats.
The vct is a 4 branch into 2 each with a cat then into 1 that than joing "middle" section.

OK it seems it can be then, that setup really does look like over complicating something just because you can. smile

Yup ford at there best.
Other 1.6 petrols of the time just had "normal" set up.
Just the vct/vvt engine had this set up.

If you have got that exhaust system then it looks like Ford are treating that engine as 2 twins as far as the ecu is concerned.
Sensor 1 is upstream of the cat and looking at the pics it looks like there are 2 upstream sensors. They should be the same so swap them and see if the fault moves.
Do not replace the faulty one with a generic eBay/amazon ‘universal’ type as they will be cheap Chinese garbage.
Get a decent brand from a reputable supplier.

If it were me, I would buy either NTK, NTK or NTK.

I suspect they wanted the torque benefits of a tuned length 4-2-1 system, but a single cat at the end would be bad for light off times.

I'll repeat this just in case the OP is tempted by the low prices of the useless crap sold on eBay/Amazon. Don't do it.
