Opinions on this Audi cambelt please. (ALT engine)

NOTE: I realise this is probably a "how long is a piece of string" question - but I know there are some knowledgeable and experienced folk on here.

Audi A4 B6 2.0L "ALT" engine code.

I've recently purchased this car and the service records indicate the the cambelt was replaced in Mar 2019 at 99k miles.

7 years later, the car is on 125k miles, so it's done ~26k miles on this (now old) belt.

The recommended replacement interval is 60,000 to 75,000 miles or every 5 years whichever comes first.

On the longest run I can depress the belt by about 18mm or so (that seems loose to me but I''m no expert).

Does this belt look tired? I'd rather put of changing it for a few months - however the car is in very good condition, and it would be unfortunate if the belt were to break....

There are no weird noises coming from the front of the engine.

Audi dropped the 7 year interval a few years ago. It is now every 140k miles, irrelevant of years.

As it is 7 years since last changed which is 2 more than 5, there is your answer.

The quoted interval by the OP was 5 not 7 years, so are you talking about the same thing?

Change the damn cambelt.
I've had one snap that wasn't due, and one that had only done about 20k but as it turned out was 15 years old shed all it's teeth on the way home from buying it!

In both cases there was a fair bit of destruction.

How old is it? I believe they only dropped the age requirement from either 65 or 66 plate cars onwards.

Ultimately no one knows if if it’ll last 1 mile or 100,000 miles.

The existing belt looks in very good condition from your photos, but regardless I'd get it changed. Better safe than sorry!
