Vauxhall Adam - Oil pump and timing chain

Just after some advice

Partners car is making rattling noise on cold start, low oil warning coming up. Garage has said they think it’s the oil pump and may also need a chain and tensioner, £900 for pump and extra £200 if chain and tensioner are needed.

Does this sound reasonable?

You need to be a bit more specific/descriptive.

Are you saying low oil pressure?

Of course you know that until the engine is running the oil pressure is zero.

When is it coming up?

Does it go as soon as the engine it started?

It went into the garage as it had the rattle on cold start.

He changed the oil and filter, and said it’s still there on cold start. He also said the oil pressure light comes on, then goes off when the car is running / driving, but when you leave it idling the low oil message comes on and off.

He believes it’s the oil pump breaking down. May also need a chain and tensioner if the low oil has caused them to wear?
