In car PC for Motec ECU display
Discussion
I want to display a heap of information from my Motec ECU, in-car. I could pay 3-4K for ADL2, which frankly is a bloody rip off, or install a PC. The PC choice is easy, just find the spec. I want, then mount where I want. The problem I have is finding a screen that I can use that is small enough, high res., and doesn't look all Halfords once mounted. I really want the screen to be discreet, but easy to read when driving. Any ideas?
www.linitx.com/ is the place where my friends have got their CarPC components from in the past.
www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=25#p505 (near the bottom) do an 8" screen (not quite double DIN width but just the right height) for £180ish. They used to do an 8" widescreen that I have, now looks like only the 7" is widescreen - if that matters (makes fitting it into a double DIN opening easier).
It displays upto 1024x768 and has a touch screen. I took mine out of the housing and made a new front to mount it in the car with. Takes a VGA input or composite for DVD player/games machine. Also has a speaker, but that seems a bit foolish as it's in a car with has a stereo already
They're nice guys too - if you have any problems thay can sort you out. Got my mini-ATX motherboard etc from them too, but other bits elsewhere. The new Nano-ATX sized boards a very good from what I hear.
