basically it sounds like a scooby running on 3cyl.ive taken the coils out and plugs and blown it all out with comp air,ive tried my mates coils too and ive taken the throttle postion sensor off and cleaned it and blown it out,i cant see how any water had got to the ecu either as that part wasnt washed throughly, even the fuse box was bone dry inside.
any suggestions appreciated

Water in an injector wiring connector?

High voltage (ignition) taking a new path of least resistance that the water has offered?

Water in the intake?

High voltage= the ignition system. Does your engine have C.O.P. (coil on plug) or does it have high voltage leads attached to coil packs?

Basically make sure that there is no water left anywhere near the ignition system, it sounds like you've already tried to dry off the coils, just make sure that the rest of the ignition system is dry. No water puddled up around the spark plugs, dry off the spark plug leads if needed, Etc.

I've done this to many a car (with distributors) and it has always sorted it's self as things dried out, sometimes it takes longer than other times. I think you just need to dry, dry, dry.

In the past I've used heavy freezer type plastic bags and rubber bands or gaffers tape to protect sensitive under bonnet items when cleaning up and keep the high pressure spray away from fuse boxes, ignition components, Etc.
