1uzfe - Lexus 4.0 V8

head over to www.Lexusownersclub.com there are a couple of members that should be able to help..
Hi,
I'm building two Cobra replica's with Lexus V8's.
Its an absolutely brilliant engine, easy to work on and can take significant boost without requiring internal mods.
I looked for two engines for a good 12 months before I found three in a breakers in Nantwich who told me he couldnt sell them as there was no demand, these engines it seems never go wrong !!
I simply did a compression test on mine, dropped the sump to have a look, replaced the cam belt, cam belt idler gear ( £80 each ) and the water pump ( £50 genuine part) and am expecting a good 300 bhp as standard with a better exhaust and decatted and 450 bhp when I get a chance to bolt a couple of Garrat T25R's and a simple additional fuel injector system as a piggyback when on boost.
I built a Cobra with a BMW V8 first and I actually prefer the Lexus engines to work on..........
Try taking a look at www.lextreme.com for everything to do with these wonderful engines.
Cheers,
Tony

How about an Ultima.....like here, www.ultimatestreet.com
Twin Turbo Lexus 4 ltr V8, aftermarket fueling and ignition, strengthened rods and pistons, 1000bhp on 95 RON unleaded at 7600rpm......
Cheers,
Tony

It is very tempting but if I was going to build another kit it would be a Miura replica - don't like replicas usually but a Miura could never be described as anything other beautiful, kit or otherwise but an Ultma is probably one of the few cars that could contain the power. (I think I'd like a V12 in there too if it's a Miura, not a V8)
I would like an Esprit but (without having measured one) from what I can see the engine bays are pretty tight and heat could be a problem too, I'd also need a G50 transaxle or similar as the Renault box wouldn't cope with a n/a 1uzfe let alone a turbo engine.
I'm thinking of something that's already rear wheel drive, that will take a Toyota gearbox (easy to get and will take the power) and normally comes with a weedy engine. Lotus Excel springs to mind as does BMW 2002. Lots of options but no idea yet !
The BMW 2002 Lexus 4ltr V8 swap has already been done and it works beautifully by all accounts.
Another favourite is mating the Supra 4 wheel drive system to the Lexus engine and bolting on a hefty turbo .......Can get close to 650 bhp with little mods and reliable 4 wheel drive.
I was checking out the Garret t25s at the weekend and they are tiny, even in the Cobra bodyshell there'd be plenty of room for something a bit bigger if required !!

Could one of the good chaps here do me a big favour and measure the engine?
Basically i need length, height, width across the top of the v and across the centre of the engine as it has to sit between chassis rails.
Also is there a toyota manual rear wheel drive inline gearbox that fits straight on to this engine?
Also does it have a distributor as it will be going on to carbs.

Im not certain, but a supra box may well bolt up.
No dizzy on these-all coil packs.
hth
The Lexus uses the A340E autobox. On the Mk3 (single turbo wedge shape pre-94) Supras the A340 autobox and R154 5-spd manual box have the same bolt patterns so very easy to swap over. It may well be that the Lexus A340E uses the same bolt pattern as the supra A340, in which case the R154 will fit and that's a pretty tough box with a good aftermarket selection of clutches to suit varying power levels.
The 4 litre Lexus uses two distributors, one at the front of each camshaft, the later 4.3 ltre VVti uses coil on plug packs.
Either way if you are running on carbs and not using the original ECU you'll have to either buy or build an ingnition trigger system of some sort.
It may well be possible to use the original ecu to control the spark, which gives you automatic ignition advance and knock sensors, without using the fuel injection system.
bset way to find out is to do a search on the Lextreme site.
The simplest way to describe the Lexus engine sizewise is as a 750mm square box.

Absolutely brilliant information thankyou, if it was only one dizzy it would be quite an easy job, but the two dizzy's will be a challenge, however size wise it looks fine, and good news on the gearbox issues!
I guess its also fairly light, and even better the engine mounts look very compatible with mine, so really shouldnt be a major job!
Thanks people!
