What are you after - performance or a 5 speed box? There's not a lot of room in that sub-frame, but you can tune the engine up to about 100bhp, which is pretty significant in such a small car; expect 0-60 in about 8 secs, flat out about 115.

One way to do this is transplant the whole front end from a car into the rear of the Metro. So what you do is cut out the engine bay from a car. The engine bay will include all suspension mounts, steering rack, engine and box mounts. This is then welded into the back of the Metro. All you really are doing is welding steel.

The Saab Turbo 9000 (I think this is the model) is great for this because it is effectivly a transaxle (in the saab the whole engine sits in front of the wheels) so you end up with a true mid engined, plus turbo means big power.

We once put a Saab engine into the back of an Uno for a TV program in 2 days. Ok its a bit rough but it worked and was done under time pressures.

Think Zcars are in process of putting a Civic Type-R engine in the back of a metro at the moment, not sure if they're using one of their kits or if its a full custom job though...
