Fuel pump choice for EFI on rover V8 Cobra - Advice Please?
Discussion
Hello all,
I’m in the process of fitting rover EFI to a rover V8 which is currently running a Holley 4 Barrel carb. The engine is in a Pilgrim Sumo, It has a fuel pump located by the tank at the moment.
I’m after a fuel pump that I don’t have to install inside the tank, to avoid having to take all the body work off to fit it. I’m not sure what pump to buy as I have not undertaken this type of conversion before.
Also, Will I need a swirl pot if the pump is not in the tank?
Can anyone make any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Scott

If your tank isnt an efi one, then you will need a swirl pot.
EFI pumps dont like to be run dry at all. Firstly, the engine will falter, as there is no reservoir of fuel like a carb has, and secondly, it will greatly reduce pump life.
pretty much any in-line efi pump will do for supplying your engine. Bosch make loads. ebay is usually pretty cheap.
Just make sure whatever lift pump you use, can keep up the supply to the swirl tank/efi pump.

feed the swirl pot with your existing pump, it should be man enough, feed the high pressure pump from the swirl pot and have the fuel return from the fuel rail also feed into the swirlpot, then the swirl pot overflow back to the tank. This is how I did a conversion some time back. Demon Tweeks have some handsome alloy jobs.

As far as swirl pots and thing go, buy them off this guy. bought this at 3pm and it arrived the next day, and the quality is no less than stunning!
