I have a Ford KA 2003, I started my car and it was running perfect and sounded ok, I drove about 1 mile down the road, I was in 4th gear doing 40mph when my car started shuddering and felt like I had to change down a gear but the shuddering was still happening. Then my Engine Light came on, so I pulled over turned car off/on this time the Engine light remained on and the car was still shuddering. I managed to drive my car home but would only allow me to go 20mph (30mph with a push) with my Engine light on and my car shuddering. My exhaust is making a popping noise but the engine sounds fine.

Can anyone help me to what this may be or any advice.

Thank you

aldi

Sounds like it might be running on two cylinders. Could be any number of things, maybe a HT problem - I think trying to guess would just waste your time really. If you don't know anyone who's handy you might have to take it to a garage. Try to get a reccomendation from family/friends when deciding where to take it, plead poverty and flutter your eyelashes If you want to do a sanity check on what the garage tells you feel free to post it, there are some experienced eyes here!

Ps Try not to drive it too far as is because you might be causing more damage to the cat.

They do suffer with coil packs going down, so common in fact i keep one in stock.
You need to get somebody to do an fault code read...Let us know how you get on.

I agree that it will be running on 3, maybe even 2 cylinders. It could be a few different things though, but a bad coil pack could do it. I had similar symptoms on a 1981 XR3, the head gasket blew and lots of water was pouring into cylinder 4. It wouldn't restart after though...

I was going off a rough estimation that if three cylinders were working, she could go at least 45

That's not a bad point... Thinking about I managed to maintain 55mph in the XR3. Good thing really as I was on the M5 at the time...
