Just a quick question:

A friend of mine wants to know if putting Throttle Bodies onto a Vauxhall Red Top 2.0 (XE) Engine will gain alot more power than the 45 DCOE Webber Side Draft Carbs that its already on!?! Apart from the webbers, the engine is totally standard. Any advise will be greatfully recieved (we'll almost any!)

I used to work for weber alpha (webcon) and we sold both types of kit - in short - no there will be no difference in power between 45mm throttle bodies or 45DCOE carbs......the only reason you would opt for throttle bodies and electronic injection is for better throttle response on a race circuit, or for emissions on an SVA test with a cat and lambda set-up......

BUT some of the new throttle body assemblies available from the likes of Jenvey are very nice pieces of kit......as a guide - for a full throttle body kit from Webcon expect to part company with £2000 - but its already mapped and comes with everything - it saves a real load of hassle......a set of carbs with a wasted spark ignition module is really better value for money if I'm honest. as second hand carbs and manifolds are dead cheap. the wasted spark ignition module from webcon costs about £300 and is already mapped.

expect 200 bhp from a standard 2.0 XE......they are a cracking motor
