I have a Marlin Roadster with a 3.5 Rover V8 fitted, with holly carb. No problems untill the weekend when I tried to start it and it wont even fire (turns over fine). I have petrol and a good spark, any ideas what it could be?

Are the petrol and spark both getting to the plug?

Try holding the plug lead away from the top of the plug whilst cranking. By all accounts the bigger gap it has to jump can cause a bigger spark in the plug. It also proves the plug is sparking whilst under compression.

Have you tried cleaning and drying the plugs or fitting new ones, even hold them over a gas burner for a few seconds to heat them a bit then refit.
Have to tried a compression test?
When did the engine last run and how long was the gap before it wouldn't start?

How long has the fuel stood, petrol has a shelf life.

It ran fine, I parked up, left it for a couple of weeks and ..nothing, I have had all the plugs out, cleaned and gapped. Left them out for a few days to dry the bores out, changed the disributor cap and rotor arm, tried again but it just wont fire. Dont know what else to try.

New plugs. Sometimes you can dry them out and clean them, but it's hit and miss in my experience. For the sake of twenty quid eliminate that as a potential problem.

I had a similar problem once and changed everything, points, condenser, coil, dizzy cap, all the plug leads and in the end it was the plugs. banghead

The RV8 seems to do this after it's been stood for a while, I think the plugs get wet whilst the lifters pump up & once flooded it stays flooded. My 7 has done it a couple of times.
