Rover V8 Engine Number?? 39VB?

Hi all,

We've got Rover V8 with an engine number starting with 39VB. Does anyone have any ideas what this means / what this was from?

We've never seen one like this and have searched everywhere.

The stamp looks very original.

what is the rest of the number?

Perhaps it is "3.9 litre validation build"?

I'll have a look at the rest of the number tonight. The block is x-bolted and i'm told that it's a 4.6.
