Renault engine go BOOooom
Discussion
A mate of mine has got a 2001 Megan 1.9 derv, its only on about 63K however to my knowledge has not been serviced in all the time he’s had it (about 4 years, plonker!) anyway, last week it decided enough was enough and let go, I sussed out that the turbo had gone from his description as it was pumping black smoke out and was continuing to turn over without the keys being in the car (running on the oil) He has now had the turbo replaced, all seemed OK, the lad at the garage had it running for around 10 minuets but then it started to rev up to the point where they just had to pull the keys out.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The ECU has been checked for fault codes but nothing showing, I’m thinking along the lines of it being the sensors crudded up with all the oil that went through it but what do you think??
Thanks for any advice

it revved up uncontrolled eh........with 63K miles under its belt, It will have a massive soot content in the oil, way exceeding 3% which is a common maximum, not to be exceeded.......excessive soot in oil is like grinding paste, it has worn down the piston rings and polished the cylinder bores to such an extent that the sump oil can easily vent into the combustion chamber - and heypresto the engine runs on its own sump oil, revs through the roof and never ever runs again.......known in the industry as oiling up.......he needs a new engine - its shagged - this is what happens when you dont service engines.......silly boy!.......seen it happen many times.......his can also happen when you dont run an air filter.......within a matter of a few hundred hours operating time.
Bugger! This will make his day tomorrow then!!!!
I have got a strange feeling in my water that this could have been the cause of it but was thinking it would have just been a sensor that had gone south, I will refrain from giving him the good news tomorrow and let the garage hit him with it!
Thanks for the info
I’m glad that I look after my motors
Cheers
