Any thoughts on what the likely problem might be with my gearbox/clutch on my Gilbern. Driving home today i was unable to select 2nd gear and am now stuck in 1st. Had the AA transport me home and Driver suggested the gearbox would have to be removed to fix it... Anyone come accross a similar problem and suggest other 'cheaper'remedies first?

Does the clutch pedal appear to do anything when you press it? Does the gear lever feel to be connected to the gearbox?

Clutch pedal feels like it is still operating ok still has same pressure' under foot. Cable isn't snapped or anything and the clutch fluid reservoir is full
The gear lever is still connected but appears to be only tiny amount if any movement any direction. Stuck solid in first. Has this happened to you?

Have you tried jacking the wheel off the floor and starting it in gear? Then you may be able to change gear.

Gear selector? Has one of the pins holding the selector rods dropped out?

Had a good look at the selector rods linkages etc. they all appear to be there and in place without anything visibly 'missing'externally! also put car on jacks and trolley jacked it off ground. started up in gear, back wheels spun lovely however gear still stuck in 1st..... it will not let me select another gear.
any suggestions fellow PHers

If you can move the lever through its normal range of movement then it seems likely a selector fork has come adrift or broken.
Can you disconnect the gear linkage at the gearbox and see if you can move the selector levers on their own.
In this way you may be able to feel the one that does not appear to be connected inside.
No idea what box you have so where do the selector shafts go in?
If they both go into a removable unit on the top of the box then that is your next port of call. If it is like that then there is most likely access from above by taking up the carpets and removing an inspection cover on the transmission tunnel.

Good hunting

The gear lever is seized in one position. Cannot select any other gear. I have taken the gear lever off and tried to free the linkages below. Its a 4 spead Zodiac box with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear on my Gilbern Invader. Not much access from above as the inspection hole isn't that big.....Now cut out some more glassfibre to allow even better access, still no luck banghead

Have now been given advice that its possibly a circlip missing from either outside the gearbox or from inside the gearbox.I Will investigate further and let you know
