Just wondered what the collective thoughts were about getting some more grunt out of the 1500cc B-Series in my Wolseley 1500 - it's fine on the flat but, much like it's owner, it rapidly runs out of puff going uphill.

Just for the moment I'm ruling out the obvious drop-in-an-1800-MGB-engine as the current engine was rebuilt not long ago and runs as sweet as anything.

Amongst the transit load of spares I have to go back and collect, there is the manifold and twin carbs from the Riley version of the engine so I guess that's an obvious starting place. I guess a performance style exhaust manifold from an MGB would liberate a couple more horses and some more pounds feet of torque too. Any other ideas?

Yes, the standard manifold and exhaust are pretty strangling, and twin SUs are a worthwhile upgrade. Significant benefit without having to take the engine apart. Or for an excellent period upgrade search ebay for "shorrock"

I would pop the head off and sort out the valves and ports first, could give you another 10 bhp and will mean you get 125% from any future modification rather than 100%.

May as well change the cam too, I'd bet the stock cam looks more like a straight rod than a cam

Thanks for the replies guys. Plenty to think about there - a blower would be well cool, make it a nice little sleeper too, best start doing the lottery again then!
