I used por-15 manifold grey - looked great but much of if flaked of within days. It didn't seem to adhere to the smooth steel pipes. I think if it was rough sand-blasted it may of worked better. And I had to spray it to get a decent finish, brushing looked awful.

Big photos at:

So to sum up, it can cope with the heat - if you can get it to stick. I wouldn't use it again.

If you want to use paint, give VHT a try:

The best (and expensive) option is to send the manifold(s) out for a ceramic coating:

I had a Cal-Mini header on my old Trooper that was Jet hot coated and the stuff wouldn't come off (even dropping tools on it wouldn't cause a chip). After 4 years of use the header looked nearly new and it ran cool, 5 minutes after shut down I could put my hand on the header. It's also supposed to give a little performance gain.

That's the stuff I used. It's a bit fussy about how the metal is prepared, and you can only apply a single coat, but it sounds like a decent and cheap alternative to professional ceramic coating.

It's actually the same stuff Camcoat use. As long as the surface is well prepped it seems to work well.

Also available in the chrome option:

Cast iron manifold.....Alu based paint.

Steel tubular. Black Fire dragon paint. Youll find it from a decent blacksmith. you can heat it up past cherry red and it doesnt affect it !!!!

Or be a man about it and heat wrap it.

I got great matt black results on a grit blasted cast manifold using cheap and cheerful "hammerite" heat resistant paint sold for coating BBQ's. Shows no sign of flaking or porosity (unlike VHT). Halfords.
