Omex 710 ECU Group Buy
Discussion
NOTE: I have permission to post this from Garlick.
After the TVR section Group Buy on Emerald, I started to look into this as an alternative option - and have finally got prices back. The loom price is based on a Chimera, so will be slightly different for different cars, which can be confirmed later. I have prices for 5-9 people buying, and over 10 people buying, if we can get more than this then i'm sure we can get even better prices.

A decent discount i'm sure you'll agree.
Please post up if you are actually interested, I don't want a list of 50 that turns into a list of 2 when money has to be paid.
If you have any queries then email me and I will try to get answers for you.
Matt

Trigger wheels, crank sensor, mini timer connectors and in particular coil packs are much cheaper from http://www.trigger-wheels.com
I started to look into this because Emerald were taking their time coming back with a price, so now (unfortunately) there are 2 Group Buys running - it wasn't meant to rival the Emerald one.
I was hoping that the Emerald one would carry on running, as it mainly a TVR thing, and this might attract enough buyers from elsewhere. I'm now not going for an Omex unit myself anyway, as I need a higher rev limit (around 14k rpm).

Is there any reason why to use omex over megasquirt, Im just putting the finihing touches to my megasquirt setup (coilpacks) and its cost alot less. I would be interested to find out what the omex does over the megasquirt.
Not intending to start an argument just interested...(and im tight) :-p
Thanks

Would the emerald not support 14k rpm in the spec you require? I have an email somewhere from dave walker saying it's been bench tested to some ridiculous rpm, well above 14k rpm anyway.I was hoping that the Emerald one would carry on running, as it mainly a TVR thing, and this might attract enough buyers from elsewhere. Megasquirt is good if you are a tinkerer and want to understand exactly what is going on, if you just want to take your car to a rolling road and have it set up then you're better off with Emerald/Omex/DTA
As far as rev limits go the Emerald I have here has load site 30 set to 15500rpm and load site 31 at 15953 which seems adequate if you ask me

As a Megasquirt Fan, I would say that's a fairly good summary. I guess that puts me firmly in the tinkerer dept!trackcar said:

By the time you lot have talked these 'group buys to death' - I'll have my Emerald up and running.
Been fitting the crank trigger wheel and making the mounting bracket this weekend.. on and off..
Nearly done - just need to get some longer bolts and nuts (weld the nuts on) and some alloy welding wire - as I've decided to make the pickup mount out om 3mm alloy because of the inductive (magnetic) pickup..
