This turbo, when removed, was making a rock solid 9psi according to a much respected member of the other forum I visit!

Apparently not. He said it hit 9psi like a wall and wouldn't go any higher (it was his friend's car). So he decided to pull it off to have a look. The owner of the car had been running without a filter for a while for some reason.

They think the turbo ingested a 10mm nut, as that was the only thing they could find missing in the engine bay!

I wonder what happened to said nut after it finaly managed to pass through the compressor? eek Hopefully caught by the intercooler...

I'm told they found a metallic, dusty substance inside the intercooler that could only have been said foreign object and turbine blade remains.

When you hear a turbo making 3 bar of boost with no filter, the joys of filterless running will be appreciated !

You have to admire his welding though, that looks tricky! (even if you had the housing off.)

Any particular reason why the nut holding the rotor onto the shaft usually has 12 points rather than 6?
