406 coupe needs help

hi guys i am new on here i have a 406 coupe 2L that has stopped working rac came out and said it sounds like a cam problem
so i may need a new engine (so i am told) my question is should i put a 406 sri turbo unit in i dont want mad hp but would love a dump valve so it could stay stock
i know its its not super quick but hey cant have everything i dont want a v6 can be arsed with all the work and funds that would be involed
i want to sort it as cheap as i can as funds are tight at the mo and it is my daily car so has to work lol lol
what should i change if i get an sri engine ie cam ect and what should i avoid i dont know much about engines and dont wanna get my fingers burnt

the wife says keep it as it is ie a 2L 16v coupe engine but i wanna take advantage of the momment and get that dump valve in

So do you want it back on the road cheap, or do you want to spend a fortune ?
If you want it cheap, just fix it.
What on earth could be wrong with a cam, that needs an entire engine to be replaced !!!!
I think you need to find out whats wrong first. Because it you are quoting the RAC guy verbatim....he obviously isnt too smart around cars

As i say, it would need to be a major problem for it to be cheaper to change the engine.
Id like to know whats wrong with the old one first...it might be a very small problem.
When you start fitting totally different engines, you could run into wiring problems, all sorts. If doing this yourself, no big deal, as time is free.
But if you are paying someone...time is money.
Conversions are never cheap.
If its a new engine you need, id price all the options first.
