Hello all. I have recently joined and thaught I would pick your brains a bit. I have a 88 205 gti and an s16 engine with ecu and loom and I want to mate the two. I have seen the mi16 in about a million 205s and I have seen a few gti6 conversions to but there doesnt seem to be to many s16s. Does anyone have any experiance doing this conversion? Any help will be greatly recieved ( the best advise giver will recieve a mars bar, a chock ice and 14 polos!!!!!)

Yup, just in a different state of tune IIRC. Have a word with pug1off, based in Brackley, south Northants. They suggested this to me rather than rebuilding my Mi16.

The MI16, GTi6 and S16 are all essentially the same engine at different stages in developement, although the inlet and head design are better on the GTi6 giving 176bhp against the MI16 145 and S16's 130 odd (emmissions).

Engine mounts are in the same place and the gearbox is a nicer fit on the S16 as the 6 speed unit is a touch longer which affects your steering on LH full lock.

Easy peasy with the right approach.

I've just helped with an S16 install in a 309. It all fitted in fine with a GTi6 inlet manifold and a "slightly adjusted" exhaust.

It was making around 140 at the wheels, but unfortunately it seems to have blown a head gasket on the first track outing frownfrown

Ah sound. I herd it was similar to the gti6 but I wasnt sure. I dont think it should be to bad to get it into the car but its looming it up that im not looking forward to. Im not the best with wiring so should be interesting. I am having greif getting hold of diagrams of the two car looms so if anyone has any clue where to get one they may be inline for that mars and the polos!!!!!

I threw the engine loom away and installed a VEMS ECU.
Only power and ground need to be connected to the car loom.

Much simpler, and aftermarket was the only sensible way given the wild cam, different injectors etc.

The Mi16 is a bit different from the GTi6 and S16. Mostly down to the fact it's 1.9 as opposed to 2.0 and it's alloy, therefor lighter.

Had 2 different Mi's in my 205 and it was wild. 1.6 box with the Mi16 Final Drive helped too.

If i was putting an S16 in then a low pressure turbo would defo be on my shopping list aswell.
