Throttle bodies
Discussion
Have a word with Bogg bros, I think that nearly all their trade now, butting bike carbs and TBs on car engines,

48 carbs are awfully big on a 1700 engine, especially with that cam. If you were running a 300deg cam then maybe but even then i'd say your carbs were a bit big.
I'm sure some smaller carbs, 40's or 45's with a decent and properly mapped 3d ignition system like a weber alpha for example would make a massive difference to low end torque, with no loss of top end power. Much cheaper than throttle bodies too.
Megasquirt is just the engine management system, its just another make like emerald or DTA for example. Megasquirt seem to be a bit cheaper than other systems but it appears that not so many rolling roads / engine dyno people will re-map them. I think megasquirt sysems as well as being able to be bought people build themselves from kits or drawings and the set them up them selves using the "seat of pants" type dyno!! I.e. passenger with lap top!
Megasquirt should run most if not all types of throttlebodies though. All the injector needs is a low voltage current going to it to turn it on or off.
Unless you really know what your doing or have loads of time i'd steer clear of modified bike throttlebodies, in principle there fine but you will find you will spend lots of money on special manifolds, throttle linkages, etc etc and uless you do it all your self it proby wont work out cheaper than some bolt on ready to go systems like those supplied by jenvec or similar.
Hope that helps!

I'm after some advice about fitting throttle bodies to a 1690 x flow engine. Can i fit bike throttles with a mega squirt ignition? I am currently running twin 48's and a 264 cam. Hopefully the above setup should make the engine more driveable at low revs. Any advice welcome. thanks
twin 45,s are what you want(if sticking with carbs)if the rest of that motor matches that cam spec then 40,s will be way to small, good torque but no real big BHP numbers,as BigTommy says 48,s are a bit big for that motor spec,i bet its awful at low revs
This link should help you work out the correct choke and therefore carb size. http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/Chokes.htm
Vulcan engines suply 40's on their x-flows, i have had a 2.1 pinto with a big valve head on 40's it was fine although when i put 45's on it it was slightly but only slightly better. People seem to love to use bigger carbs than necessary...........

Even if you use 34mm chokes(32 is the usual) in a pair of twin forties on the Xflow if its its a heavy tune you will be throwing HP away,i used 45,s with reasonable bottom end torque,40s are only good for a 130hp tune if your reaching for 145hp(and that 264 cam should be)and above its gonna be 45,s,its all in the set/up i have seen these engines run like sh*t with forties just bacause of poor set/up,its not just carb size that kills the engine but the setting up of the correct emulsion tubes, mains and air correction that makes this motor ROCK Vulcan engines suply 40's on their x-flows, i have had a 2.1 pinto with a big valve head on 40's it was fine although when i put 45's on it it was slightly but only slightly better.
