Where would the knock sensor be fitted to a rover V8 and would you fit 1 or 2, looking into using megasquirt.

OE bolted them to the sides of the block.

But pretty much anywhere you can fit them will suffice. Some are more sensitive than others too.

I've just bolted mine to the front of the head, but I have now idea how effective it is because I haven't wired it in yet. silly

I've recorded noise traces from a single bosch knock sensor using a VEMS ECU on my Rover. It seems to work pretty well when the sensor is located near the front of the block, approximately in the OE location.

Where were they originally fitted to the block and did they fit 1 or 2?

Crossbolted blocks had a sensor fitted to each side of the block, below the head.

You know what I meant! frown

hehe

Any reason why MS and knock sensors aren't feasible? I'm on the way to doing that on my MS1/Extra using Boris's knock detector.

I have one, but it doesn't work. I tried two different sensors and it just picks up lots of noise. The LED even flashes when starting the car!
I was going to obtain a chevy sensor and conditioner described on the MS2 pages:
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/knock.htm
but haven't bothered with that either so far, although it looks a more reliable approach.
