Another oil question!
Discussion
Right, I've read several topics regarding oils on various forums and still haven't heard a convincing argument NOT to use a cheaper brand oil in my car, but before I do I would like your thoughts.
My 2005 Honda CRV 2.2litre diesel is now out of warranty. I have a Halfords trade card so can get a good discount on their own brand oil, so is there any good reason why not to use their own brand, fully synthetic oil as opposed to some other, more expensive branded oil?
What about oil filters, fuel filters etc? And where can I get a Haynes type manual for the car (Haynes don't do one and I need the service schedule)?
Can anyone advise?

I suppose it's a good question.
There are always two ways to approach this..
1) Best for the engine
2) Best for in in ££££
No 2) is easy .. change at manufacteur specified periods with the cheapest oil you can find.. but I think many of us here would guess that in time this would not be good for 1) and if it was a high spec engine might even cost you ££££ if you kept it too long.
I think most of us would suggest you research and buy a good quality oil .. but if £££ are very important then even buying a home brand top grade oil and changing on the manufacteur specified periods would be far better than extending these periods and not changing at all.
IMHO.

If the oil meets the correct Honda specs then i cant see a problem with the Halfords stuff,do use genuine oil filters at least though, when i was a Honda tech(15 years ago +) the pattern ones never quite made the grade
maybe things have changed though, personally i dont think i would take the chance on something so cheap anyways.

Get a oil that meats Hondas spec mate.
If you want to no when it should be serviced get on flea bay and buy yourself a Auto Data CD cheap they have service sheets on the CD and lots of other info that could help you. like how to turn your service indicator off ( if its got one ) or if you dont wanna do that ring the stealers they will tell you.
