Had an offer of a 2 Litre Carlton, L plate.

Have a Small Block Chevy V8 in low state of tune and wondered about mating the two !

As the TH350 autobox that came with the SBC is shot I wondered if the SBC would bolt straight up to the existing bellhousing and whether the SBC output shaft will mate with the corresponding existing Carlton gearbox parts.

Bodge I know but will get this cheap winter project on the go if they do go.

Any input, piss-takes or laughter gratefully received..

V8 Carlton - like the idea, but it could be a bit more difficult than you think.

The transmission is a Getrag 240, but with an integral bellhousing so you can't play around like you can with others from the Getrag range. The bellhousing pattern fits all of the belt-driven cam Vauxhall four-cylinders and also the Vauxhall V6, but NOT the American V6.

The bellhousing that you'll have in this car also won't fit the Vauxhall straight-6.

the biggest headache that you'll have will be the steering box, which will be trying to share the same space as the cylinder block.

The Holden Commodore range is basically the same car, and they have a different front "clip", including a steering rack
