Mate has an 1988 jaguar with a 2.9 engine. Car has suddenly started misfiring under load and running rough. The rotor arm looks OK, but when you use a multimeter to test for continuity between the central contact and the tip, there isn't any.

Are we missing something here?

Some rotor arms have a resistor in them.
If that is the case on yours then it may have burnt out.
