Honda Accord Clutch Issues.................
Discussion
I took the family wagon to drop the kids off yesterday and thought it was slippery as the revs were rising and no real speed increase. Been out in the dry with a mate today( who is a mechanic) and has confirmed the clutch is slipping. The car is 2 months out of Honda's 3 yr warranty and has done 23k miles.I and the wife are not hard on clutches, neither having worn one out in many years of driving and should really expect 100k miles plus before being an issue.I will be giving Honda a call in the morning, to see where we stand on the issue. The clutch and dual mass flywheel alone is £1000, so the labour could also total another £1000. Mate said he could do it,at his rates, but I have read about Honda doing goodwill gestures for unusual failures.Has anyone else had 'goodwill gestures' from manufacturers? We bought the Honda for reliability and now this.It is the CTDI diesel. We don't tow anything and is usually used for long motorway journeys. We have had issues of creaking clutch, which involved Honda replacing the clutch pedal and greasing the master cylinder this year, which they claim has cured this issue and we never heard a creak and click again.
You hear of goodwill gestures all the time, generally speaking they are given when the manufacturer thinks the customer is unlikely to forgive them for the car breaking and not buy another either again or at least for a long time. It usually relies on the customer having a full dealer service history.
Regardless of who pays the car needs to be repaired, I'd then sell it. You bought a car with perceived reliability, not actual reliabiliy.

Oh dear have Honda gone dual mass flywheel too? i worked for Honda many moons ago when they made proper cars not contaminated with European parts cars, the only ones worth having were the their home built(Japan)ones and the Accords that were built in the states
i think they soon realized you dont get rich making very reliable cars
good luck with the warranty Justin.

Yep, dual mass flywheels.£800 for that and another £200 for the clutch kit.I haven't had a reply today, so guess that the service department is now closed until the new year.Sods law, that our other car is dying and have ordered a new run around and won't be ready for another week.I will have to drive carefully in the Honda, as it only slips with wellie down at the moment.
Faire, I had the clutch done at Honda.I could have got my mate to do it, but we were hoping on a gesture of goodwill. In the end, the clutch plate was 'worn out' and they replaced that, the cover and release bearing. The flywheel was apparently OK.I paid £510 for 5 hrs labour and they paid the rest.I wanted to see the clutch, but the garage made an excuse of it being sent back to Honda already (same day I picked it up they did the job) so smell a bit of a rat. I guess I will have to accept this, although the clutch bite has never bitten so low and we are not used to it, so its a bit jerky driving at the moment,so I believe thy have 'adjusted the pedal' and was never right from day one, but am at a loss on who to argue it out with, as Honda UK really are not interested whatsoever and the times I have dealt with them, seems a pointless thing have a customer carline and then shrug you off.If yours is under warranty, its a tricky one, like me.If my mate had done the job, it would have been the same cost as a clutch kit is about £240. I'm yet to see a dealer service that I consider average from all the dealings I've ever had. Good Luck...............
