Has anyone managed to successfully mount a knock sensor to the rover v8 engine. I have the correct sensor but there is no tapped hole on the block where they are normally mounted. So can I drill and tap my own hole or is there a better place to mount it.

I think only the later blocks have the holes .. I've got a few spare holes on the side of my block and wondered what they were for !

Now I know.

I mounted mine on a spare tapping on the front of the head - and got terrible noise problems with it. So I moved it to the OEM position by the engine mount (which is present and tapped on my cross-bolted block) - and I got terrible noise problems there too. frown

If you don't have the OEM sensor boss I suppose you could always use one of the bolts that attaches the engine mount to the block; it's in about the right place.
