Meriva 1.6 04 Plate. Hi, Over the past couple of weeks have noticed that its been getting harder to get the car into 2nd gear. At the moment the rest of the gears seem fine. Once in it does not jump out and its okay changing up to 3rd etc. Can't detect any sign of the clutch slipping, no rise in revs.

Had the local mechanic have a look at it as he's been pretty good in maintaining the car in the past.

He's advised that it needs to go to a Vauxhall main dealer as the gears need to be re-aligned and advises that they have a special tool to do so.

So before I go and get charged stupid rates for labour etc I'd thought I put upon the collective knowledge of the PH'ers for advice.

Does what the local mechanic say sound true ? Any idea what I'd be looking at in terms of hours of labour etc ? Anywhere in the Edinburgh/Midlothian area that you know would take on the job other than the Main Dealer ?

Thanks in advance.

There is a linkage on top of the gearbox that is very common for failing and this causes the problems you have, the complte linkage kit is around £100 from the dealer and is about a 30 minute job to fit, this will more than likely be the fault, have changed hundreds of them. Bet your local dealer will have double figures of them in stock!

Thanks for that...I did a bit of digging on the net since I first posted and you've just backed up what I found there. Cheers
