hi all
this is my first post on pistonheads so just bear with me, iam going to be running a rover/TVR v8 in my lambo replica what i need to know is where do the pipes connect to on the charcoal cannister.there are three outlets on the cannister itself 1.tank 2.air and 3. the purge valve, 1 i would guess goes to the fuel tank 2 vents to air and 3. goes to the intake manifold vacuum, is this correct? i have twin tanks on the car but only one tank has an inlet for the cannister will this make any difference? any help would be much appreciated

Throw the lot in the bin & blank off any holes. You don't need it.

What he said. Unless for some reason you need it by law, and as far as I know you don't in the UK, I'd bin it and use the space for something useful.

I don't see how you'd prove it worked. I have no idea what the SVA would involve but if it *does* require a carbon cannister system then I expect you could plumb it up how the heck you want and nobody would be any the wiser.

If you decide that you do need to do it properly, then at one end of the cannister you have a vent to atmosphere, at the other end you have a line to the tank and a line to the engine intake manifold. The line to the engine has a solenoid operated valve that is closed most of the time but opens when the ECU decides to purge the cannister (I think during low load + high revs is typical).

Who told you that? The engine has to pass it's normal MOT time emissions and a noise test, but nothing else. It is true of cats, but only because it wouldn't pass the emissions test without one.

Just a word of general advise regarding charcoal cans.

They normally have a vent off the fuel tank, so don't block this off
