Starter keeps running!
Discussion
Missed the hoon this morning!
Started up the car as normal (Rover BRM, 1.8 'K' series VVC) drove out of driveway. Went to shut gate and noticed nasty, graunchy noise from engine. Turned off quickly and starter motor was still turning......with the ignition key removed?!!
Disconnected battery and it stopped (of course)
Reconnected battery and all was fine. Tried to start and it did it again.
Now Haynes don't have a manual for this model so.....any ideas for a quick fix?
Starter solenoid?
Is there a starter relay to drive the solenoid?
Does anyone have a tank to drive over the car?

Get a rubber mallet if you can access the starter motor (i can't remember, i got rid of my 200vi 6years ago and deliberately forgot about it)Started up the car as normal (Rover BRM, 1.8 'K' series VVC) drove out of driveway. If so get it to repeat the problem and whack the starter motor with the hammer, if the solenoid is 'stuck' this will more than likely free it and stop the starter motor. if not its probably something in the starter circuit.
NOTE: Your starter motor will flaten your battery in no time.

i'd check that the ignition live was cutting off after the key is turned, on the starter motor you have two wires one is battery live the other which is alot smaller and can some times be a small plug is the ignition live, if you have access to test lamp or multi meter check that this is not staying live when the engine is running as this activates the starter solinoid, if it is then its ignition fault, if it cuts off and the starter is still running it will be starter fault as the starter gets stuck on the flywheel and is not returning. skid-mark said:
