Can anyone supply me with a link about adjusting ignition advance when mapping a car. I feel ok with changing fueling settings on my map but not so with the ignition.

I understand that you can run more advance on race fuel and if you run to much it will cause pinking/detonation etc but am trying to find out more info thanks

Try a few searches - 350Matt used to rave about his piece of string and baked bean can knock detector that they rigged up at Cosworth F1 biggrin

Its a difficult thing to do as every engine is different - you are right to be cautious! Do some google searching to try and find a map from a similar setup to your own & start from there. On a NA engine detonation is less of a problem (in that the engine will not self destruct as quickly as a turbo) but as soon as you hear detonation stop, remove some ignition & try again. I generally add / remove ignition in 3 degree steps. One thing to remember is maximum power is not acheived just before det - it is generally 2 or 3 degrees before & too little ignition advance is better than too much.

There are various products out there, Knock Block is one of them, there is also a very good active device that I use on my car called a J&S Safeguard which works like an OEM knock control unit retarding timing automatically when it senses knock from the factory knock sensors.
