C20LET running standard boost level, engine done 36k. Oilpump (genuine GM with SBD steel drive gear and nylon PRV (set up to match GM PRV dimensionally)has covered no more than 2,000 miles. New GM Sandwich plate replaced with oil pump.
(This was replaced with the pump as the previous one decided to start spitting a few bits of swarf into the filter and the PRV finally got stuck shut).

The last few weeks ive noticed the Oil pressure goes up to 5 bar when cold on idle as it should, but after literally 2 miles of driving this will drop to 4 bar when on the move (2-3 k revs) and when oil has reached full temp it will sit on 0.5 to 1 bar at idle and only get to 3 bar at 3k revs.
So, last sunday i decided to drop the oil and take a look in the filter, to my horror there was a few bits of swarf again. Now with New oil in it the symptoms are the same as above. The oil btw is VX 10/40w as recommended.

My thoughts are to add a washer to the PRV valve to increse pressure but will this be too high when the oil is cold?

Any advice appreciated.

Sounds to me like you need to strip the engine, check the mains and remove any trace of swarf.

What leads you to think the PRV is opening?
How will increasing the PRV cure swarf in the oil?

I would be suspecting a progressive failure of the oil pump producing swarf and at the same time producing less and less pressure.

I agree that the swarf is prob from the pump as it was aluminium.
But what caused the pump to start eating itself?
