hi guys

Trying to remove the last bits of a cork gasket from my head before I refit the new gasket and cam cover. Whats the best way of removing the last bits that have stuck onto the head without scraping them into the head itself?

I use a scraper made from a broken hacksaw blade.
Grind off the teeth and grind the end square. Grind a cutting edge on one side of the square end. Rub the cutting edge on wet and dry or a slip stone to dull the edge slightly.

If you always keep the whole cutting edge on the surface it cannot dig in.

Or hammer the end of a bit of copper pipe (15mm water pipe is fine) flat & then sharpen it as above. Safer than steel esp on ally.
To stop bits falling into the head use a bit of clean rag to cover the area you don't want the bits in.

A bit late but use a vacuum cleaner as you scrape.

Just make sure that:
1. The wife is out.
2. You clean any oil off before she vacuums something light coloured.eek

rofl That reminds me of working under my first car... my mum's cat came out to say hello, did the usual cat greeting thing of rubbing cheeks and lifting her arse in the air. Which smeared all the oil and muck off the underside of the sump all over her back. She then went back in the house and got on the sofa. Of course this was all my fault.
